Ram ProMaster Power Steering Recall 92D: What Camper Van Owners Need to Know
FCA/Stellantis Safety Recall 92D involves certain Ram ProMaster vans and their electric power steering systems. Here's what camper van owners should know and how to check your VIN.
By Hank Strange and Lola Strange ·

A new FCA/Stellantis safety recall involving the Ram ProMaster electric power steering system is beginning to reach camper van owners and RV manufacturers.
The recall, identified as FCA/Stellantis Safety Recall 92D, is particularly important to the RV community because the Ram ProMaster is widely used as the foundation for Class B motorhomes and camper vans from manufacturers including Coachmen, Winnebago and Thor.
If you own a ProMaster-based camper van, here's what we know so far — and how to check whether your van may be affected.
What Is the ProMaster Steering Problem?
The issue behind the new recall has been under federal investigation since earlier this year.
On March 2, 2026, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Office of Defects Investigation opened Preliminary Evaluation PE26002 after receiving 19 owner reports alleging intermittent or complete loss of power-steering assist in certain 2022 and 2023 Ram ProMaster 1500, 2500 and 3500 vans.
The investigation identified water intrusion into electrical connectors associated with the electric power steering system as a reported problem. NHTSA estimated the original investigation covered approximately 136,666 vehicles.
NHTSA noted that loss of power-steering assist can substantially increase steering effort and could potentially contribute to a loss of directional control.
Importantly, the March action was an investigation, not itself a recall. The newer FCA/Stellantis 92D communication is the development owners are now beginning to encounter.
What Is Safety Recall 92D?
Information currently being communicated about FCA/Stellantis Safety Recall 92D identifies certain 2022–2026 Ram ProMaster vans and 2024–2026 ProMaster EVs as potentially affected.
The issue involves possible water or moisture intrusion and corrosion within the electric power steering wiring and connectors. This can potentially result in inconsistent steering effort or loss of power-steering assistance.
At the time of this update, complete 92D campaign documentation has not yet appeared in the public NHTSA recall information we can independently verify. StrangerPalooza is therefore treating the specific 92D vehicle population and repair procedure as developing information and will update this story as additional FCA/Stellantis and NHTSA documentation becomes available.
That does not mean owners should wait to check their vans.
Why This Matters to Camper Van Owners
A ProMaster may leave Ram as a cargo van and later become a Class B motorhome or camper van.
That means your RV may carry a Coachmen, Winnebago, Thor or another manufacturer's name while the underlying vehicle — and the VIN associated with this recall — is still a Ram ProMaster.
RV manufacturers are already beginning to communicate with owners and address the new recall.
Owners therefore shouldn't assume their camper van isn't affected simply because they purchased it through an RV manufacturer rather than a Ram dealer.
Which ProMasters May Be Affected?
Current information associated with Safety Recall 92D identifies certain:
- 2022–2026 Ram ProMaster vans
- 2024–2026 Ram ProMaster EVs
However, this does not mean every ProMaster built during those model years is affected. Recall eligibility is tied to the individual vehicle, so the best way to determine whether your camper van is included is to check its VIN.
How to Check Your ProMaster
FCA/Stellantis Recall & Rapid Response Inquiry
Individual owners can enter the last eight characters of their VIN, and the system supports checking up to 10 vehicles at a time.

Because 92D information is still emerging, information may not appear in every system at exactly the same time.
What Should Camper Van Owners Do?
If your VIN shows Safety Recall 92D or another open recall, follow the instructions provided by Ram and your RV manufacturer.
Owners of factory-built Class B RVs should also watch for communication from their RV manufacturer or dealer regarding how the recall will be handled for their particular camper van.
If you experience unusual steering behavior, increased steering effort or an electronic power steering warning, have the vehicle evaluated rather than assuming the warning is related to the RV conversion or house electrical system.
We'll Continue Following Recall 92D
StrangerPalooza will continue following FCA/Stellantis Safety Recall 92D as additional information becomes available.
We'll update this article when the complete recall documentation is publicly available, including the confirmed vehicle population, affected model years and repair procedure.
